In the European market, there is no standardized logo or declaration to denote a RoHS compliant product. Currently, the only items excluded from the compliance are batteries (as they are covered under different compliance regulations), medical devices and monitoring & control instruments. The producers are declaring product compliance by making it available for sale in the European market. Hence, the compliance is automatically implied with or without any special logo or statement from the seller.

In North America, however, the situation is rather different and while hundreds of products in any big box stores can be seen with the Green Leaf RoHS logo, however, the Manufacturers have no obligation to follow the RoHS standard. California comes closest to the European hazardous substance regulations, with its own SB 20: Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003, or EWRA. Through this, they mirror the European RoHS compliance regulations. However, it only covers few consumer electronic devices including LCD TVs, CRTs and Plasma Displays.
